Learn to build mobile applications for today’s most popular platform:

Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch. In this invitation-only, dynamic two-day workshop, you’ll get up to speed on the basics, including the Cocoa programming environment, Xcode suite of tools, the Objective-C language, and Instruments, a tool to help debug your applications. And then you’ll create not one, but two iPhone applications.

All you need is familiarity with the Mac, basic experience with object-oriented programming (such as Java or Visual Studio), and an understanding of pointers and C syntax. Instructor and knowledgeable iPhone app developer Joe Heck will quickly teach you the rest. What you’ll take away from this workshop is the knowledge to build effective iPhone apps with the same tools Apple uses.

SD2IG - Joined INETA

Hope to see everyone at our MIX reloaded meeting this wed.  In the way of news SD2IG has joined INETA (http://www.ineta.org/).  INETA is an international User Group organization that helps provided support to community orgnizations around the world for things like peer based support, educational and promotional support etc..  alas INETA is a MS technology related group but some of us do focus on those technologies.  :)

March Meeting - Revisiting MIX 09

Many of us at SD2IG attend a ubber conference called MIX.  MIX is a show in Las Vegas that is for designers and developers.  Granted much of the conference is around WPF/Silverlight and related UX technologies but other topics such as flash are covered with the main point around the next generation User Experience on the web.  Since a large group of us will be at mix this months meeting is the 25th and we will be looking at our favorite or not so favorite bits from mix in Retrospect.  If you don’t get to MIX here is a great chance to get an over view of some of the coolaid coming from MIX.  Come drink some with us :)

News at MIX

The discussion continues at www.visitmix.com. MIX09 sessions and keynote recordings have been posted here. Check out and upload MIX09-tagged pictures at flickr. In addition to the bits you received while at MIX, we have several downloads you’ll want to check out here.

At MIX we were part of the Silverlight 3 beta announcement including more than 50 new features and 20 new controls, including support for running Silverlight applications out of the browser, dramatic video quality, performance improvements, and features that dramatically improve developer productivity.

MS also announced the official release of Windows Internet Explorer 8 at MIX09. Microsoft’s most standards compliant browser, Internet Explorer 8 provides enhanced security, performance and includes features such as Accelerators and Web Slices making it easier for developers to reach beyond the page.  (we will see how perf is)

Hope to see you wed.

January Mobile Devices

Our meeting on the 12th was great.  We had to move our location for the next couple months due to issues with Lincon Square so we hope no one got lost although we only moved across the street…  even with that being the case, downtown bellevue can get kind of a maze.

We had two great presentations on iPhone development and designer ‘not’ experiences.   Matt Muller (with www.redbackconsulting.com ) and Devin Brown (www.identitymine.com ) both did great presentations.  The design experience for doing on phone applications turned out to be a huge bust.  The ‘apple’ tools are just not there yet however doing web experiences for the iphone using things like iUI turns out to be kind of cool if one is into HTML/CSS/JavaScript and related.  Both Matt and Devin have blogs and we hope to see up coming blog posts on the content of their presentations.

Next month we are excited to welcome Brentt Christian from Sun to tell us more about the Designer Developer story around JavaFX and around the mobile story for JavaFX as well which promises pretty cool.  Hope to see you there.

Also a few of the ’softee’s were drinking some Silverlight coolaid as seen in the following:
